Ronald McDonald House New York provides a temporary "home away from home" for pediatric cancer patients and their families. The House is a supportive and caring environment that encourages and nurtures the development of child-to-child and parent-to-parent support systems. Ronald McDonald House New York has 84 guest rooms and is one the largest facility of its type in the world.
The house offers its guests much more than a temporary place to stay, assisting them through a variety of emotional and physical services including counseling, chaplaincy services, educational and recreational programs that range from movie making to weird science.
Although the house is located in Manhattan, it is currently creating rooms in our partner hospitals where a family can seek solace and take a break while their child receives treatment without leaving the hospital or be relegated to a public area. These Ronald McDonald Family Rooms will be open to any family with a child admitted. The rooms will have a kitchen, bathroom, shower, washer/dryer and be staffed by volunteers. The first of these rooms is slated to open early next year in Brooklyn at Kings County Hospital.
Most importantly, the house provides young cancer patients and their families with a supportive community, the encouragement they need to keep fighting and hope for a brighter healthier tomorrow.
