University Service Day

About

Description

                     Come join us on
                Saturday, September 26
               for St. John's University's
       19th Annual University Service Day!

You're invited to participate in a day of service locally, nationally, internationally--and now virtually!

Despite the significant changes that we've all had to make in the last couple of months due to COVID-19, we still continue to carry the spirit of Vincentian service to support communities in need (near and far).

Far, but yet still close, what a difference a day makes!

“To me, meaningful service is all about reciprocity and strengthening the community in which we live. When both those who are serving, and those who are being served, learn from and benefit one another, that is meaningful service.” –Ashley Gabriel ’19Ed"

Why Founder's Week?

As a Vincentian University, we celebrate University Service Day on or around the feast day of St. Vincent DePaul (September 27), whose compassion and zeal for service continues to inspire so many to work towards social justice and the reduction of poverty. This special day will kick off the start of St. John's University's Founder's Week, a week of events and programs dedicated to deepening our knowledge and understanding of our Vincentian heritage.

What is University Service Day?

On this day, the St. John’s University family joins together to serve our communities locally, nationally & globally… by serving the hungry in soup kitchens, visiting residents at nursing homes, engaging in fun activities with disadvantaged children, cleaning and landscaping area parks, painting rooms in nearby schools and community centers, and providing assistance with so many other important projects. Working together in generosity and love as a Vincentian Family, we show exactly “what a difference a day makes!”

Why Saturday, September 26?

Every year, University Service Day is held on the Saturday closest to the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul, whose compassion and zeal for service continues to inspire so many to work towards social justice and the reduction of poverty. This special day is part of St. John’s University’s Founder’s Week, a series of events and programs dedicated to deepening our knowledge and understanding of our Vincentian heritage.
