Vincentian Weekly Service

Welcome to the Vincentian Weekly Service GivePulse Page!

Happy New Year and welcome back for the Spring 2023 semester.

This is where you can sign up for our Vincentian Weekly Service opportunities on the Queens Campus. Transportation to service sites are provided by our Graduate Assistants unless otherwise stated. All are invited to answer the Vincentian question, "What must be done?" and join us for meaningful service opportunities!

Are you participating for Academic Service-Learning credit? Click here for a tutorial on how to tag your class to your impact to receive AS-L credit.

*Because of high demand, students are limited to registering for TWO Midnight Runs per semester. If you would like to be added to the 'StandbyList' to be contacted as a regular back-up, please e-mail Rachel Burgos (burgosr@stjohns.edu).*

St. John's is Vincentian in tradition and because of this, we seek to instill in the University community a deep concern for the rights and dignity of every person, especially those who are impoverished and most vulnerable. Many Vincentian Service programs offer a hands-on approach through volunteering one's time, energy, and talent. Others provide a setting where the social and theological reflection helps students understand human suffering on a deeper level. St. Vincent de Paul poured out his life in service of everyone he met, and we strive to do the same.

Campus Ministers are an excellent resource and are always available for any type of counseling, spiritual guidance, supportive service, or referral information. Some live in the residence halls, while others travel with the athletic teams, and you can always find one of us on campus to connect with. We seek to be a supportive presence for all students on the journey through St. John's that leads to personal, spiritual, and professional growth. Feel free to stop by any of our offices in Lourdes Hall, Marillac 239, or St. Thomas More Church. Students of all faith backgrounds, or no faith background at all, are welcome!

Want to suggest a new service site or reserve spots for a student organization/class group? Contact Residence Campus Minister for Vincentian Service Rachel Burgos at burgosr@stjohns.edu or 718-990-3354.

About

Join in meaningful service opportunities with our site partners throughout New York City! Transportation is provided for all Vincentian Weekly Service opportunities as they all take place in-person. As part of our Vincentian identity, reflection takes place on the way back to campus where students get a chance to share their experience and learn from one another. Registrants will receive a confirmation email prior to service with the meeting time and location.
Hours are approved for Academic Service-Learning, however you MUST link your course in order to receive credit. You will be signed-in by the supervising Service Graduate Assistant and an impact will be created for your Vincentian Weekly Service participation; be sure to check that your impact is added within 72 hours of the event (please do not add a duplicate impact!). Reach out to burgosr@stjohns.edu with any questions related to your Vincentian Weekly Service impact.

If you wish to link your class to this impact for Academic Service-Learning (AS-L) credit, please click here for instructions: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gZfQjmiKLyE7o-baCjpIZ0Sdon1qH0jT/view

For any questions regarding AS-L, reach out directly to asl@stjohns.edu.

What makes Vincentian Service different?
We follow in St. Vincent de Paul's footsteps of recognizing that those we serve are not beneath us. Rather, we are called to serve from the heart, inquire of them what they need, speak to them compassionately, and be good stewards of privilege, resources, and knowledge while responding to the needs of others.
